About the Role
Join an early-stage healthtech team as its founding, backend-leaning engineer. You will own core platform architecture and build reliable systems that help claims get adjudicated and medications reach patients.
What You'll Do
Own backend APIs, database design, permissions, privacy boundaries, backups, staging, observability, and deployments.
Build and operate a real-time drug pricing system that compares multiple sources and routes claims to cost-effective options.
Manage eligibility and claims flows through an adjudication engine, helping ensure reliable service at the pharmacy counter.
Develop an in-house claims adjudication engine and validate it against an existing system using replayed claims.
Build and operate payment infrastructure between brokers, the platform, and pharmacies, with a strong focus on reliability.
Make foundational architecture and schema decisions to support growth from an early user base to a much larger platform.
What We're Looking For
Three to eight years of experience as a backend or full-stack engineer, with strong backend, system architecture, and database schema design skills.
Experience building and operating production systems where errors or downtime have direct financial or operational impact, such as payments, ledgers, trading, or critical infrastructure.
Proficiency with Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, row-level security, GCP, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, React, and TypeScript.
Comfort using AI development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
Confidence making independent technical decisions and constructively challenging a technical founder.
Strong computer science fundamentals; a related degree is a plus.
Prior software engineering experience in healthcare, health benefits, or pharmacy is not required.
